How Can I
Help You?
My deep connections in the closed publishing world and my 20 years of experience can
do a lot for anyone who wants to be published or self publish. Dodge is a “Household” name in the major NYC
publishing industry. I start with Senior Editors, Executive Editors, Associate Publisher and Publishers. This
eliminates a lot of the routine manuscript presentation hurdles. Our Lone Wolf authors get a special look due
to my endorsements of them.
I can also provide valuable information to anyone who is looking for pre-press
services through Lone Wolf or wishing to self publish. There are pros and cons to all forms of publishing,
and I know most of them.
Even if you have never published a single word, I
can tell you quickly what your odds of getting published are. Basically, if you are an authority on what you do
and you can write like you talk, you have a good chance of signing a publishing contract with a major publisher.
You don’t need a literary agent for most non-fiction works.
If you want to self publish, avoid vanity
publishers. Talk to companies like Lone Wolf who charge you only for the services that they provide. Make
sure the book you self publish has your own ISBN. Otherwise, you may not have ownership rights. Independent
publishing is on the rise, and I can help you to understand the nuances of the process.
What Are
The Benefits of Being A Published Author?
The benefits are rarely found purely in the financial returns on the book being sold.
While it is very possible to write for a major publisher and make $40,000-$50,000 for a book over 5 years (I
have many times), money should not be your motivation. For every non-fiction book that earns an author
$25,000 there are probably more that make less than $10,000. As an expert, you will not see a good return on
the investment of your time if you are looking only at the dollar angle. Consider some of the following
observations that are fairly common knowledge in the publishing world.
- Academics are said to live by the “Publish or Perish” rule. If you are in
Academia, getting published as an expert with a major publisher could do wonders for your
career.
- Expert witnesses benefit greatly from being the person who wrote the book on their
area of expertise.
- Business owners can use their published books to increase their business and their
rates.
- People with a story to tell can do so.
- Those who want to help and teach others are empowered to do so.
- Satisfaction and pride comes in far more forms than simply monetary
compensation.

My
Rates
My rates are generally quoted based on the project at hand. I offer a free email
consultation for new clients. Phone calls must be scheduled. My phone rates are a minimum of $150 for up to
30 minutes of talk time. MasterCard and Visa are acceptable
forms of payment when a phone call is scheduled. If the consulting extends beyond 30 minutes, my rates go
down to $250 per hour with fifteen-minute intervals being the breaking point for billing.
It is not unusual for me to work with a prospective author in the development of a
full book proposal for $500-$750. This doesn’t amount to much when you consider the author’s advance against
royalties, the long-term earnings of a book, the expert status established as a noted author, the increased
business that being the expert who wrote the book on a subject brings, the publicity from the publisher, and
so forth. Going it alone can be a long, dark road with many obstacles.
In addition to this consulting work, I may take selected prospective authors under my
wing as Lone Wolf Enterprises, Ltd., the book producer. When this occurs, I unlock the doors to major
decision-makers at publishers and shorten the potential approval time for a project from six months to a
month or two. I start with Executive Editors, Associate Publishers, and Publishers. Dodge is a “Household” name in the NYC publishing world. I truly can unlock doors that
have no keyholes for most people.
Additionally, I sometimes publish authors on a royalty basis through Lone Wolf
Enterprises, Ltd. (the publishing division) or Creative Consulting, Inc (the publishing division).
